40. A life-defining decision

Rudolf Haver, Managing Director of the third generation (1953 – 1992), had two daughters.

Daughter Susanne, born in 1946, married Reinhold Festge, also from Oelde, in 1970. They had the same circle of friends, went to dance school together and graduated as a doctor and teacher respectively. Soon after his marriage – Reinhold Festge was about to receive his doctorate in medicine from the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster – Rudolf Haver asked him whether he could imagine joining the Management of Haver & Boecker. Reinhold Festge knew that this was probably the biggest decision of his life. On the one hand, he was a physician with heart and soul, on the other hand, he saw the life’s work of the Haver families and the great future of the Haver & Boecker company. He could well imagine following in his father-in-law’s footsteps – but on condition that he was given the time for a second degree in order to acquire the qualifications required for such an important job.

He and his wife moved to Munich to study at the Ludwig Maximilian University, where he graduated with a degree in business administration. He remained true to his first passion until the end of his studies in 1979. During his lecture-free time and during the semester break, he took on practical placements in the Munich region. Even though he was offered the opportunity to work as a team doctor for FC Bayern in the meantime, he continued to follow the consistent path into the Management of Haver & Boecker. In 1980, the time had come. Dr. Reinhold Festge joined the Haver & Boecker company.
