39. Dubious calls in the evening

When Wolfgang Haschke, who later became Sales Director, flew to Taiwan for the first time with Rudolf Haver as a young man in the 1960s, he was very surprised to receive dubious evening calls.

Even as a guest at a luxury hotel, you were asked if and when you would like to have an “entertainment girl”. This was completely new for Wolfgang Haschke. At breakfast with Rudolf Haver, he asked him whether he had also received such a call. This was probably not the case – but was not discussed further as the two only had packing machines on their minds anyway.

However, when these evening calls continued in Taiwan’s neighboring countries, Rudolf Haver then openly asked the Haver & Boecker representative Liu what it was all about. He confirmed the ladies’ approach and explained that they would base their choice of callers on the dates of birth of the hotel guests. That was finally clarified.
