When Haver & Boecker received an order for two of these machines for Cuba from a major German supplier, the two motors required were delivered to Haver & Boecker for installation. When the time came for the motors to be installed in the packing machines, they could no longer be found. A replacement was quickly procured from the Husemann company in Gütersloh, so that nothing stood in the way of the packing machines being delivered soon.
Months later, the then master electrician Tiggesbäumker was asked for advice by Haver & Boecker because a motor on a household machine was not working properly. It quickly became apparent that this was one of the two motors, as they were designed for the 60 Hz that’s common in Cuba. In Germany, as you know, we have 50 Hz.
Fidel Castro himself operated the machine when it was commissioned in Cuba. A photo of it hung for a long time in the house of Alfred Bruder, who had installed the machine. Unfortunately, the picture can no longer be found today.
