The gentlemen had already been to Oelde several times – so they knew their way around quite well by now. Above all, they also knew the “Brennerstübchen” in Ruggestraße – a very small pub also known secretly as “Werk 5 due to its popularity with Haver & Boecker employees after work.
So it was clear to the two BASF technicians that they’d return to the Brennerstübchen after dinner. Amid a cosy and sociable atmosphere, they ended up staying there until after midnight. They then made their way across the city to the Hotel Mühlenkamp, where they were staying. When they arrived, though, they realised the front door was already locked. And what’s more they didn’t have a key... Ultimately accepting their fate, both men set off through the streets again. This time to the nearby Stadtpark, today’s Vier-Jahreszeiten-Park. Once there, they found two park benches where they made themselves comfortable and spent the rest of the warm, balmy summer night.
They turned up punctually the next morning for the project meeting and reported on their alternative accommodation.
