Architectural wire mesh DOGLA-TRIO

The escape staircase of the new built parking garage in the French town Massy got an architectural wire mesh cladding made of DOGLA-TRIO 1011 by HAVER & BOECKER.

The mesh type DOGLA-TRIO is a very robust specification due to the special crimps which increase the stability of the mesh significantly. Due to the high transparency of the mesh, resulting from an open area of 66 %, the cladding appears filigree and translucent and the staircase is light-flooded.

The wire mesh elements, with the dimensions of 14.5 m height and 2.7 m width are tensioned over the entire height of the escape staircase with the proven mounting system of HAVER & BOECKER. An eye-catcher is the painted logo in the upper third part of the stair tower.

The Ondrej Nepela Arena is a ice hockey stadium in the Slovak capital Bratislava. It stands at the corner Trnavská cesta and ulica Odbojárov, northeast of the historic centre in the town district of Nové Mesto.

The stadium was named Orange Arena for the period of the 75th Ice Hockey World Championship 2011 from 29 April 2011 to 15 May 2011. The second venue for the 2011 World Championship was the Steel Aréna in Košice.

For the world championship 2011 the stadium was reconstructed from April 2009 to February 2011. Beside a subterranean car park with 300 places and two training halls, the capacity of the stadium rose to 10.000 seats.

In the course of the preparations for the world championships 2011 the wire mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1011 from HAVER & BOECKER has been used for the ceiling at the Ondrej Nepela Arena.

The HAVER Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1011 is ideal for cladding technical installations due to its semi-transparency.  Due to its wire thickness and woven structure, it is a very stable wire mesh and robust enough to keep mechanical influences away from the technology above. Due to the mesh structure and the mostly flat viewing angle of ceilings, it appears almost closed when viewed from the side. With an open area of approx. 66%, it also guarantees the perfect functioning of technical systems. 

In total HAVER & BOECKER delivered 350 m² architecture wire mesh <link 1194 _top - "DOGLA-TRIO 1011">DOGLA-TRIO 1011</link>.

For the facade of this park in Mechelen HAVER & BOECKER supplied cut-to-size pieces of appr. 5 x 2 meters.

The mount the panels, the mesh elements were simply bolted into the subframing. Due to the strength of the chosen architectural mesh specification DOGLA-TRIO 1011 a special tensioning system was not required - despite the large panel size.

With over 4 million passengers annually, the Nuremberg Airport is ranked 10th amongst German airports. An ever-increasing volume of passengers at Nuremberg created the need for a new parking structure. The construction of car park P3 not only created new and premium parking possibilities, it also made up for 1700 ground parking spaces that were eliminated for environmental renaturation.

The new car park offers 2.150 parking spaces on 7 floors. Primarily constructed from precast-concrete panels, the 18 meter high building was built on the existing airport area on a surface of 53.000 m².

For the facade cladding HAVER & BOECKER supplied more than 4.300 m² of stainless steel wire mesh type DOGLA-TRIO 1011.

Each panel is fitted with a flat tension profile and a series of clevis screws at the top and bottom. This allows the mesh to be connected to the U channel substructure and, together with the use of pressure springs at the bottom, provides the optimum tensioning for the facade.

An intermediate mounting system is provided at each level, and after tensioning, the mesh is connected to the round tubes using wire connectors.

The result is a homogeneous facade with no interruptions.

In 2016 Dealer Tire LLC made the decision to relocate to a new headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. The privately held company provides tools and services to over 10,000 car dealers and over two dozen automotive brands, and is also one of America´s largest tire distributors. The move included the intensive renovation of a long empty historic structure in Midtown Cleveland – Victory Center.

When looking for a new location, Dealer Tire was seeking a place that was loft style but had an industrial atmosphere to echo the company’s aesthetic. Victory Center, a four story H-shaped building, had been vacant for more than a year after a state assisted renovation project and proved to be the perfect location for the new Headquarters. One of Dealer Tire’s requirements when seeking a new Headquarters was parking availability for both employees and visitors.  The lot at Victory Center offered enough room for a 650-space parking garage to be built, and this is where W.S. Tyler stepped in to help.

Car park cladding with HAVER Architectural Mesh

Working directly with the architects from Vocon, W.S. Tyler - the American daughter company of Haver & Boecker - was able to solve a few of the parking garage’s challenges with their Architectural Mesh. The architects needed a material that could act as a security barrier while still maintaining the required open area for natural ventilation on the garage. The material needed to be cost effective and be able to cover a very large amount of space. Vocon had already considered the possibility of using wire mesh and came to W.S. Tyler right away because they were a local company who was extremely responsive and knowledgeable.

For the Dealer Tire project, the HAVER Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1011 was used. The architects were very pleased with W.S. Tyler’s knowledge and ability to narrow down the mesh options to fit their needs and requirements. A standard tensioning system was used with flat tension profiles, clevises and springs. One of the most beautiful features of using wire mesh on a building is the effect the sunlight and angle of view have on its appearance. The mesh will look entirely different depending on where you are standing when looking up at the building and what time of day it is.

The new Dealer Tire Headquarters opened its doors in April of 2017. The new building, combined with the mesh on the parking garage, was a beautiful addition to the thriving Cleveland area. Vocon says that W.S. Tyler was a great and responsive partner to work with during the design and detailing process.  The tenant is now considering illuminating some of the panels on the main side of the building to showcase the beautiful wire mesh even more.

HAVER Architectural Mesh provides protection and safety for indoor and outdoor staircases. Fall protection and balustrades made of stainless steel wire mesh are given a textile elegance and lightness.

The HAVER Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1011 was used for this staircase. It is a stable wire mesh, which receives a vertical structure through wire groups. Due to the inherent stability of this wire mesh is particularly good for fall protection used.

Located on the Boulevard de Tournai in Lille, France a magnificent stadium was completed in summer 2012. The unique design is by architects Valode & Pistre and Pierre Ferret, who are renowned for their expertise and the quality of their projects.


Wire mesh façade

For this extraordinary stadium, the architect wanted the external view to be as exciting and distinctive as the inside. The elliptical main façade of the Stade Pierre Mauroy is covered with 2046 m² of architectural wire mesh manufactured by HAVER & BOECKER.

The chosen weave type DOGLA-TRIO 1030 is not only functional but also aesthetically attractive. During the day the semi-transparent surface of the stainless steel wire mesh creates an elegantly gleaming appearance in the sunshine.

The woven wire mesh is virtually maintenance-free, easy to clean, non-flammable and also offers sun protection. At the same time, due to the open area of the wire mesh, the required ventilation to the stairwells and VIP-area is maintained.


IMAGIC WEAVE^® Transparent Media Façade

The main façade especially reflects the urban nature of the new stadium. LED mesh IMAGIC WEAVE^® can easily transform into a multimedia attraction, for example to enhance events taking place at the stadium.

The concept of the architectural team of Valode & Pistre and Pierre Ferret was to create a façade that in one moment fascinates with its elegance and clarity, and in the next brings the stadium to life through atmospheric light and colour. To realize this concept they set extremely high demands on the flexibility of the media façade system. IMAGIC WEAVE^® transparent media façade by HAVER & BOECKER met all these demands.

IMAGIC WEAVE^® enables the creation of individually programmable lighting effects in up to 16 million colours, from simple graphics to live video coverage of sporting and cultural events. By attaching slim LED-profiles to the reverse side of the wire mesh a homogenous and transparent look of the façade is maintained at all times.

With a height of 20m and a length of 120m, the media façade has 70,000 pixels covering the entire surface of the external envelope. Within the whole facade there are three different resolution areas: a rectangular high-resolution screen for promotional videos; an elongated medium resolution “ticker” style screen, and a large background screen with a low resolution, which can be used for graphics or creating various lighting moods.

The 20 m high mesh panels are tensioned using tension profiles, clevis screws and pressure springs. The border elements of the elliptical surface were custom fitted using welded flat steel, special eyebolts and pressure springs

In total 4.3 km of powerful LED profiles were installed by abseilers to 2046 m² of architectural wire mesh. The installation of the LED and architectural wire mesh components, as well as the pre-installed power and control racks for the media façade, was carried out under the guidance of the HAVER & BOECKER technical team.


Easy operation

In a nearby control room the complex video control system is realized with an ecue lighting control server fx and 25 ecue Video Micro Converter. Using wireless technology it can simply and playfully be controlled using a Smartphone or tablet pc. All three areas of the media façade can be controlled separately using video content or can be used as single units for external representation.

IMAGIC WEAVE^® transparent media façade converts the stadium area in front of the ticket counters into a multimedia attraction for fans, visitors and passers by.

The office building of HAVER & BOECKER’s wire weaving division now shines in a completely new light. This is due to a new LED system that illuminates the wire mesh from below.

The Liner Shield AC XB LED-RGB-light source system by Traxon Technologies is fully outdoor-rated and the ideal solution for high-brightness architectural illumination.

The LED spots provide high brightness, high colour brilliance, various radiation characteristics and are low in power consumption. The simple plug'n'play system and flexible cable lengths enable easy installation for large-scale lighting projects.

Used in combination with <link www.weavingarchitecture.com/en/applications/media-facade/ _top - "IMAGIC WEAVE transparent media facade">IMAGIC WEAVE^®</link> transparent media façade, the illumination of 481 m² of architectural wire mesh facade is perfect.
The colourful illumination of the wire mesh façade with colour and light compositions can be customized individually.  It is possible to assign static colour to each LED or to play automated lighting effects.  A direct interaction between the colour washing system and IMAGIC WEAVE^® media façade is also possible. For example the video background colour on the media facade can be extended to any wire of the wire mesh facade.

The visual effect of the illuminated mesh facade is specifically influenced by the geometry of the mesh. Theoretically a closed wire mesh reflects more light and a wire mesh which is more open reflects less light but in reality a mesh façade can be much more fascinating and alterable than this.

The illumination of spotlight architectural wire mesh also provides a rather unique magic to the viewer. It would seem that the harmoniously matched beams have their own dynamic: they move in time with the viewer’s position.

Transparent Media Façade IMAGIC WEAVE^®

Over a width of nine meters and a height of 4,70 meters the mesh type DOGLA-TRIO 1030 is equipped with LED profiles: 222 profiles with a length of three meters each are attached to the back of the wire mesh: 74 times on top of each other and 3 times side by side. The appearance of the total façade remains uniform. Each of the 10.700 LED pixels can display over 16 million colors and be addressed individually. The LEDs are arranged on 62,5 mm centers horizontally and vertically. The aspect ratio of the façade is approximately 2:1; as a comparision: new LCD-TVs have a ratio of 16:9.

Each segment requires 8 feed cables, 24 in total. All feed cables run invisibly through the profiles of the substructure framing, are bundled at the bottom und led into the basement to connect with an air-conditioned 19 inch control cabinet. Depending on the resolution of the media source the Windows-based system can play all standard video- and picture formats. For a size of 42 m² the connection wattage of only 6,5 kW for the full façade is very low. The optimum viewing distance of the media façade is 45 to 60 meters.


The wire mesh façade

After completion of the building construction the preparation for the façade began. A curtain wall consisting of 481 m² of stainless steel wire mesh were installed by the HAVER & BOECKER crew. Herefore a 16 ton steel structure was erected, into which nine standard façade elements were installed. The DOGLA-TRIO 1035 panels are 14 meters long and three meters wide.

At the gazebos on the left and right side of the building the mesh panels are almost 12 meters long with a varying width. They are tensioned with flat tension profile, clevis bolts and pressure springs.


A Canopy made of Architectural Mesh

The extended building also received a canopy consisting of an additional 125 m² of DOGLA-TRIO 1035. These elements are bolted to the substructure with a 90 degree bent flat tension profile. The new façade offers a homogenous image, and depending on the viewing angle it appears transparent or opaque.

At the same time the mesh panels effectively connect the old part of the building with the added fourth floor.

Designed by the architects „Schwieger Architekten“ the 4 star hotel „Hotel FREIgeist“ is located closed to the PS.Speicher, the motorcycle and autocar museum in Lower Saxony Einbeck.

Opened November 2015, the hotel offers with its young and innovative concept 63 double bedrooms, 7 meeting rooms and a 350 m² fitness area. The character of the nearby PS.Speicher is reflected at the FREIgeist Hotel Einbeck. Inside and outside the building walls of fair-faced concrete and red brick, large glass surfaces, steel and oiled oak floors create the right atmosphere. An open stairway in the center of the hotel connects all four floors with each other and provides a sense of space, which is free for inspiration from all directions.

Architectural mesh from HAVER & BOECKER clads the external stair tower of the hotel. The Chosen HAVER Architectural Mesh <link 146 - - "HAVER Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1030">DOGLA-TRIO 1030 </link>is a robust stainless steel wire mesh, which gets its structure from clusters of vertical wires. In spite of the open area of 75 %, the wire mesh offers a good stability and acts as an effective fall protection. HAVER & BOECKER supplied a total of 190 m² in 9 wire mesh elements for the stair tower of the hotel FREIgeist.

Despite its stability, architectural wire mesh lends balustrades and railing infills a certain lightness and textile elegance. This was also the case with the exterior staircase cladding of a school in Preisegg, Switzerland. The architects from Huber Kuhn Ringli Architekten GmbH cladded the external staircase with DOGLA-TRIO 1030 stainless steel mesh. As a inherently stable wire mesh with an open area of 75 %, it is very suitable as fall protection.

Haver & Boecker supplied for this project 110 m² in 9 ready-to-install wire mesh elements including mounting system to Switzerland.
 

In the Swiss town of Stein am Rhein a former scale factory was converted by the architects Baumgartner Partner Architekten for use as rental flats.

Architectural Mesh is suitable for the renovation, expansion or modernization of existing buildings. As a modern design element, it can be used to connect old and new building structures – as a façade cladding, interior cladding or decorative protection.

HAVER Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1030 was used for the cladding of two wellholes. DOGLA-TRIO is a robust weave, which gets its structure from clusters of vertical wires. Due to its high inherent stability, it is suitable for the use as fall protection on façades, parapets or wellholes.

One wire mesh element made of stainless steel 1.4401, approx. 14 m long and 2.60 m wide, runs vertically in each wellhole. To avoid the risk of personal injury, the long sides of the mesh elements were framed with edge protection profiles. A special detail of this project is the fastening solution consisting of clevis bolts and pressure springs, in which the upper fastening edge runs at an angle instead of horizontally.

Haver & Boecker supplied ready-to-install mesh elements including the mounting solution.

The Fortis City Hotel in Pleven, Bulgaria, is a new modern hotel, which opened in 2008. The architects' intend was to emphasive the exclusiveness of the hotel by the appearance of the exterior facade.

For this reason it was decided to use architectural wire mesh, which at the same time offers privacy for the hotel guests. To accomodate these requirements, HAVER & BOECKER developed the new architectural mesh specificaton DOGLA-TRIO 1033.

The facade elements are 5,60 m high with one intermediate mounting level. A total of 237 m² of this material were used. Haver & Boecker supplied ready-to-install panels.

Located towards Mont Blanc, Les Arc is one of the most famous ski resorts in the French Alps. Above the Isère valley, the ski resort, surrounded by forests and precipices, is comprised by 4 villages: Les Arcs 1600, Les Arcs 1800, Les Arcs 1950 and Les Arcs 2000.

As a connection between the new indoor swimming pool in Les Arcs 1800, a new elevator and stair tower was designed by the architect Yves de Preval. The tower received a wire mesh cladding from HAVER Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1033. The stainless steel wire mesh DOGLA-TRIO is a robust meshtype, which gets its structure from clusters of vertical wires. In close up DOGLA-TRIO looks very robust but when viewed from a distance it appears as a delicate fabric.

Depending on sun reflection and viewing angles, the semi-transparent cladding made of wire mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1033 appears from the outside opaque or transparent. And from the inside, the wire mesh with its open area of 67 % does not affect the stunning panoramic view of the Alps.

HAVER & BOECKER supplied in total 473 m² of architectural wire mesh cladding for the stair tower in Les Arcs 1800.

Innovative design in the Spanish capital

The renovated Edificio Celes Office Building is located in the heart of Madrid, Spain's vibrant capital. The project, designed by Touza Arquitectos, was completed in 2020. The challenge here was to give the old building a modern look while at the same time making functional improvements. This is where the DOGLA-TRIO 1033 architectural mesh from Haver & Boecker came into play, which was used over 600 square metres in three different areas and is mainly used for solar shading.

Versatile application options for the mesh

The project required the delivery of ready-to-install elements for façades, balustrades and pergolas. These different applications presented particular challenges, as the same mesh specification had to be used for all of them. Therefore the used HAVER Architectural Mesh DOGLA-TRIO 1033, which, with an open area of around 67% and a weight of 6.5 kg/m², is not only visually appealing but also functional. Nine large pergola elements measuring 4 m x 2.4 m made a decisive contribution to the modern and elegant aesthetics as well as the effectiveness of the sun protection.

The DOGLA-TRIO 1033 is characterised by its semi-transparent structure, which is suitable for use as façade cladding, balustrades or interior cladding. These properties make stainless steel wire mesh an ideal solution for modern construction projects such as the Edificio Celes Office Building.
