At Haver & Boecker, too, this medium of communication became part of everyday business life, as it had significant advantages over earlier means of communication such as fax or post/airmail: E-mails can be sent around the world in seconds – unlike traditional mail, which could take days or weeks. They are also inexpensive – while fees are charged for fax and post.
In the early days of e-mail at Haver & Boecker, use of this progressive medium had not yet become fully established among all age groups. So it was that in January 2001 – Florian Festge had just taken up his position as Vice President at W.S. Tyler in Canada and was still setting up his office – he received an airmail envelope from Germany. He opened the first mail he received in his new office with interest and was quite astonished: The envelope contained a printed e-mail.
