96. 2006 – New Logistics Centre optimises the flow of goods

A major milestone for the Machinery Division was the construction of a new large Logistics Centre, which began in early 2006. The aim was to consolidate all the warehouses in Oelde and Münster – more than 30 (!) – into one large centre by December 2006.

The aim here was not only to reduce and organise traffic flows – but above all make it easier to keep track of all available parts.

The establishment of the Logistics Centre was also intended to speed up the transport of spare parts. The ability to check availability in a matter of seconds at just one central location has since made it possible to deliver spare parts to customers within 24 hours.

The shell of the new Logistics Centre was completed shortly before the World Cup in June. The opening match between Germany and Costa Rica was broadcast there on a big screen in front of around 1000 Oelde fans and HB employees. Unfortunately, a final in which Germany would have been involved could not be broadcast. It would ultimately be Italy and France who vied for the World Cup trophy. The Italians then won the final on penalties.

The heart of the Logistics Centre is the automated small parts warehouse (AKL), which offers space for 6,660 trays in two height classes in two aisles. For larger parts, 1200 pallet and lattice cage spaces are available in the high-bay warehouse (HRL) or in the heavy-duty racking for oversized pallets with a maximum storage width of 2700 mm. Without the Logistics Centre, the increased material flow could no longer have been handled sensibly.
