86. A small mishap at a customer meeting in Vietnam

In 2017, Jörg Hielscher – a special sales representative from IBAU Hamburg – travelled to Vietnam with Florian Festge and Martin Rölfing from the Cement division to meet with a customer.

Having arrived at the customer’s premises, the three of them then waited with Singh, the local representative, in the reception hall to be picked up. When Florian Festge bent down just in front of reception to pick up his backpack and the bag with the promotional gifts, the seat seam of his badly worn trousers ripped open lengthways. With a somewhat “feminine” gait and enormous attempts at concealment, he managed to ensure that nobody at the customer’s premises noticed the mishap. Fortunately – as the negotiating partners did not return to the hotel before dinner – Jörg Hielscher was able to rescue him from his predicament. He still had a pair of trousers in a similar size in his hand luggage, which he was able to lend to Florian Festge. The evening was saved – with the two of them ultimately bringing home an order too.

The trousers were of course professionally cleaned and returned to the IBAU employee with a large bar of “Merci” chocolate.
